BEWARE OF PHISHING SCHEMES!
Pronounced “fishing,” that’s exactly what thieves are doing: “fishing” for your personal financial information. What they want are account numbers, passwords, Social Security numbers, and other confidential information that they can fraudulently use to loot your checking account, run up bills on your credit cards, or in the worst case, steal your identity that can take you years to unravel.BankTennessee has received numerous reports from customers as well as non-customers about phishing schemes this week. Thieves are sending emails and text messages that appear to be from us. As part of the scam, unsuspecting persons are redirected to a phony website or to call a phone number that may look or sound exactly like the real thing. While these schemes change frequently, they usually ask you to call a particular phone number or go to a website immediately and then ask you to provide personal data. If you provide the requested information, you may find yourself the victim of identity theft.
PROTECT YOURSELF!
Protect yourself from fraud and possible identity theft by always questioning if something asks for personal information or just sounds too-good-to-be-true. Never send money with the promise of receiving money back. If you are notified that you have won the lottery, make sure you have entered the lottery.
